How to make your home fit for the vacations

Vacation time is travel time. In order for you to be able to open the front door relaxed when you return from your vacation, some things need to be considered beforehand. We have put together a few tips for you.

Refrain from posting vacation messages on social media and don’t give anyone the wrong idea.

Electrical appliances that are not used during the vacation should be disconnected from the mains. This will save you a few euros and protect the equipment from overvoltage damage caused by lightning.

Valuables in the house or apartment should be invisible from the outside. Because opportunity makes the thief.

With timers for lights and shutters you can well fake your presence.

An overflowing mailbox is also a good clue for burglars as to where they can get in unnoticed. Your neighbor will be happy to empty the mailbox if you ask him nicely and leave him a key.

Use up your food before you travel or give it away or dispose of it.

Be sure to empty all trash cans and don’t leave perishable food out in the open anywhere. Otherwise, there is a threat of vermin and stench.

Please leave the dishwasher open a crack. This allows residual moisture to escape.

Organize someone to take care of your plants. The “substitute gardener” should know exactly how to treat which plants and when. A care and watering plan can help.
